Last Friday, a "Hey, can you please check this mix real quick?" message from a friend turned into a pretty cute Mixing-101 lecture session for a small group of aspiring brass players and their professor from HfMT Köln.
We went through the very basics like panning, reverb-send setup, and really simple tone shaping. No complicated parallel routing tricks, no multiband saturation or dynamic equalization. Only stock plugins, rudimentary techniques, and most of all, learning how to LISTEN first and do second.
The difference it made to the presentation of their recordings was quite astounding and I have a slight feeling that we might be having more sessions like this in the future!
